Sri Lanka named 'a country to explore' at France trade fair

Sri Lanka was selected this year, with Malaysia, Germany, China and Morocco, as the country to explore and visit, at the annual trade fair organised by the French magazine Classe - Export in Lyon, France recently.

The magazine which has a circulation of about 35,000 all over France, is read by export and import companies and organizations. It has dedicated two pages about Sri Lanka and the opportunities for investment. The Sri Lankan stand at the trade fair was managed by Investor Services Asia (ISA) which has been promoting Sri Lanka in France for the last 15 years. It also represents French companies in various sectors.

Lyon is the second largest city in France and is second only to Paris with regard to the number of visitors.

In 2013, Lyon attracted over 5.5 million visitors and 65 percent of them were listed as business travelers.

ISA's Kevin Frenando in an interview said he had received inquiries from potential investors and companies to participate in Sri Lanka's development process through infrastructure development, waste water treatment, in the building industry and also in exports of rubber, garments, tea, spices etc.

He said the Confederation of Small and Medium-sized Companies will bring a French business delegation to Sri Lanka in April 2015.

US envoy upbeat on Kandy's Dynasty Residence

Acting U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Andrew C. Mann extended his support to Kandy's first mixed development project - Dynasty Residence - led by prominent Sri Lankan-American entrepreneur Mahasen Samaravijaya during a recent visit to the construction site.

Hailing Dynasty Residence as a pioneering effort and a landmark in Sri Lankan-American economic ties, Mann commended the project's unique vision in supporting the sustainable development of the Kandy region.

"Dynasty Residence is a very impressive development that is truly setting the standard for U.S. investment into Sri Lanka. This remarkable development is being carried out through a significant investment from Samaravijaya, a successful Sri Lankan American with the help of his U.S. business partners".

"Samaravijaya is setting a standard for American investment with the high quality designs and standards of his product, he has paid attention to detail and to the needs of the customer. I would like to congratulate him on his fine efforts up to now and I look forward to coming back on a regular basis to see how this project develops and we are very keen to be here for the final opening of Dynasty Residence in March 2016." Mann stated. Also in attendance at the event were the regional managers of Sri Lanka's leading commercial banks, National Development Bank (NDB), Sampath Bank and Hatton National Bank.
